Winnekenni Castle – Haverhill Massachusetts Circa 1875
Winnekenni Foundation, Inc.
Winnekenni Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1968 as a non-profit organization by a group of Haverhill’s leading citizens. Their mission was to restore Winnekenni Castle, which was in ruins, and to promote the arts and sciences for residents of Haverhill and the Merrimack Valley. After successfully restoring the Castle, the Foundation actively promoted the use of the Castle for family events, public gatherings and celebrations.
Since, Winnekenni Castle has also served as a cultural center for artistic, educational and social activities. Set in one of the most beautiful locations in the world, the Castle attracts visitors from all over, season after season. Many couples are so enchanted with this picturesque setting, that they choose to exchange their wedding vows here. Families have been welcome to picnic on the grounds, attend various exhibits and public events, such as concerts and other performances, held inside Castle, as well as outdoors with the Castle as a charming backdrop! All people have been welcome and encouraged to use and enjoy the Castle and grounds!
For more than Fifty Years, the Board of Directors, born from the Membership of the Winnekenni Foundation, continued maintenance and enhancement of the Castle’s grounds, buildings and programming events.
